I live to create.
I create to live.
I create under the artist name "alt/x," which represents the alternative paths and intersections that define my journey as a multi-hyphenate individual. The name embodies my ever-evolving exploration of my identities and experiences that inform my work. It reflects my commitment to pushing boundaries and embracing transformation through creativity.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I am the daughter of Latin American immigrants, shaped by a lineage of resilience, transformation, and liberation. My art is an act of remembering and resistance — a way to honor my ancestors while reimagining power as something rooted in care, connection, and collective healing. Through collage and mixed media, I explore identity, power, and the alchemy of change. I’m drawn to what breaks open — the cracks where light and life return. The wildflower is a recurring symbol in my work: tender yet unyielding, rooted yet free. It reminds me that beauty can bloom even in the harshest terrain, that what survives is not only what endures, but what transforms.
For me, art is a meditation on what it means to survive, to transform, and to rise again. My practice invites viewers to see resilience not as endurance, but as an ongoing act of creation — a wild and defiant declaration of becoming.
